On Oct. the 18th Research In Motion (the maker's of BlackBerry) announced a rebranding of their QNX operating system. This rebranding has incorporated the operating systems from both their currently available tablet the Playbook, and the future Superphones as dubbed by RIM.
Now I tend to think a little outside of the box, and at 2 a.m. my thoughts really start to get out there. That is when I came up with my current idea (while talking to @berryinformed). Since there is already a rebranding taking place then why not make the name something everyone will instantly recognize? I am constantly hungry and always talking about food, so when this popped into my head I couldn't help but laugh. In my mind the name BBQ just really stood out as what they should have name the platform.
One reason is because I have seen people questioning what the X in BBX actually stands for (it is merely a leftover from Qunix rebranding to QNX). Another reason for me thinking this is because most everyone loves food. With such a large marketshare to be had, what do they have to lose? The brand would be instantly recognizeable, everytime a person visits their favorite restaurant they would recall the new BlackBerry smartphone will be released soon. The downside to this name change though is that whenever you go to talk about your shiny new BBX device with your friends and family, everyone will start to get hungry and maybe eat more than they would normally eat.
All of that aside, this BBX rebranding is really exciting to me. There are a lot of great things in the works for our beloved BlackBerry. Only time will tell if the U.S. will continue to support the brand, or if it will fall to the wayside like WebOS. I personally don't think that we have anything to worry about, but the media and some very biased bloggers seem to think that there is a RIMpacolypse on the horizon. What do you think? Name the brand after food? Keep it the way it is? Is BlackBerry down for the count? Let us know in the comments.
